3. How We Use Your Information

  1. Provide core app functionality — live position management, trade journal, AI coaching, analytics dashboard
  2. Authenticate and secure your account — JWT sessions, Face ID app lock, Google OAuth
  3. Deliver AI coaching insights — analyse your trades, psychology tags, and journal entries to generate personalised feedback
  4. Enable real-time trade management — relay commands between the mobile app and your MT Bridge over WebSocket
  5. Process subscription access — verify Pro entitlements via RevenueCat
  6. Diagnose crashes and bugs — Sentry captures anonymised error reports to help us fix issues faster
  7. Send trade alerts — push notifications for triggered trailing stops, auto BE events, and partial TP hits
  8. Improve the product — analyse anonymised usage patterns (with your consent) to prioritise features
  9. Comply with legal obligations — respond to lawful requests from authorities where required

We do not use your data for advertising, sell it to third parties for marketing, or use it to build advertising profiles.

4. Permissions We Request

4.1 Camera

Why we need it: ChartWise uses the camera exclusively to scan the QR code displayed by the MT Bridge desktop application to establish a secure, encrypted local connection. The camera is only activated when you explicitly tap "Scan QR Code" in the Bridge Setup screen.

What we store: Nothing. No images or video are ever recorded or saved by ChartWise.

4.2 Face ID / Biometrics (iOS)

Why we need it: ChartWise offers an optional Face ID app lock to protect your trading account data when the app is backgrounded. Authentication is performed entirely on-device by iOS; no biometric data is transmitted to our servers.

What we store: Nothing. No biometric data ever leaves your device.

4.3 Photo Library — Add Only

Why we need it: When you choose to share a trade performance card or AI insight snapshot, ChartWise can save the generated image to your Photos library. This only happens when you explicitly tap "Save to Photos."

What we store: Only the image you chose to save. We do not read, browse, or access your existing photos.

4.4 Local Network Access

Why we need it: ChartWise communicates with the MT Bridge desktop application over your local Wi-Fi network using a WebSocket connection. This permission allows the app to discover and connect to the bridge. No data is relayed to any third party over this connection.

4.5 Push Notifications

Why we need it: With your permission, ChartWise sends push notifications to alert you to trading events — partial take-profit triggered, trailing stop activation, and auto break-even events. You can enable or disable notifications at any time in your device Settings.

What we store: A device push token is stored securely on our servers solely to deliver notifications to your specific device.

4.6 Background App Refresh

Why we need it: ChartWise uses background fetch and background processing to periodically sync trade data and receive silent push notifications that keep your position data up to date when you return to the app.

5.1 AI Processing

AI coaching features are powered by our backend, which may use large language model APIs. When you use AI chat or request AI insights, your trade data and messages are sent to our backend and may be processed by an LLM provider. These providers operate under strict data processing agreements and do not use your data to train models without consent.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in the following circumstances:

6.1 Service Providers

We share data with trusted service providers (listed in Section 5) who process it on our behalf under strict data processing agreements. They may only use the data to provide services to us.

6.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your data if required by law, court order, or in response to lawful requests by public authorities.

6.3 Business Transfers

If ChartWise is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred. We will notify you before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6.4 Protection of Rights

We may disclose information when we believe disclosure is appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of ChartWise, our users, or the public.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • Encryption in transit: All communication between the app and our servers uses TLS 1.2 or higher. The app enforces certificate pinning for thechartwise.com to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.
  • Encryption at rest: Database data is encrypted at rest using AES-256.
  • Authentication: Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Sessions use short-lived signed JWT tokens with refresh token rotation.
  • Local bridge security: The mobile app authenticates to the MT Bridge using a signed one-time token, ensuring only your authorised device can connect.
  • Biometrics: Your Face ID data never leaves your device. App-lock authentication is 100% on-device.
  • Access control: Internal team access to production user data is role-restricted and audited.

While we take all reasonable steps, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@thechartwise.com.
